SER-KALLAI’s is committed to improve and transform lives through holistic well-being, supported by social emotional learning (SEL), mindfulness in positive psychology (MPP) and trauma informed care (TIC).
According to the World Health Organization, “health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. This includes five areas or holistic dimensions that encompass well-being, which are mental health, emotional and cognitive development, physical and spiritual wellness.
SER-KALLAI is committed to work integrally these five holistic dimensions through social-emotional resources that allow children and adults to experience well-being integrally and unleash their full potential, as well as improve and transform the lives of those who have experienced childhood trauma that arises from adverse childhood experiences (“ACEs”).
With a focus on holistic well-being, SER-KALLAI provides long-term and sustainable solutions for children and adults to become their best self yet, as well as avoid retraumatization, prevent risk factors (harmful alcohol use, illicit drug use, smoking and obesity) and mitigate causes of ill health (cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease, anxiety and depression).
SER-KALLAI’s SEL provides tools to children and youth through education, by focusing in five core competencies: self-awareness, self-management, social and relationship skills, autonomy, and spiritual well-being.
Mindfulness is called the full mental focus that a person can access.
Through the use of positive psychology, SER-KALLAI supports children and adults in shifting their focus from negative patterns to their strengths.
MPP allows them to place their attention to what they have within, not only by identifying, verbalizing and addressing adverse experiences, but also developing sustainable tools and positive variables that enhance their perceived well-being.
Uses meditation practices, physical exercises, journaling, visualization, breathing focus techniques, and other mindfulness strategies to focus on the well-being and flourishing state of children and youth.
Integrates positive outcomes with the individuals’ strengths, rather than on the fixation of negative thoughts and maladaptive behavior patterns.
Heightens self-compassion and kindness, increases personal meaning and human flourishing, and boosts a feeling of autonomy when addressing external circumstances and traumatic events.
SER-KALLAI’s TIC approach allows a clear understanding of the impact of trauma in the lives of children, the signs and impact in their context, the potential paths of recovery, and the tools needed to resist retraumatization.
Increases trauma-related knowledge and skills among the child’s supportive network.
Connects trauma knowledge and sensitivity into existing actions and models to avoid and mitigate negative side-effects of intervention.
Encourages meaningful engagement by the supportive network, providing guidance through the children and youth's intervention.
Supports the discovery of the children’s path to safety and resilience, giving them tools to face and overcome trauma and new adversities.
