REFUGEES

SER-KALLAI AND ITS HEART FOR REFUGEES

According to the UN Refugee Agency, we are living in times with the highest levels of displacement on record. 68.5 million people have been forcibly displaced worldwide, where 58 percent (40 million) have been displaced internally, 37 percent (25.4 million) are refugees in other countries, and 5 percent (3 million) have sought asylum. Out of all of the refugees worldwide, 57 percent of them come from Syria (6.3 million), Afghanistan (2.6 million) and South Sudan (2.4 million), where over half of them are under the age of 18.

Millions of refugee children have grown up in the midst of violence threats, fear and danger.

Although all families have been forcefully separated in one way or another, millions of refugee children have grown up in the midst of violence threats, fear and danger.

According to UNICEF (n.d.), over 40 percent of all refugee children from Syria, the first country seeking safety and refuge outside of their homeland, are missing out on education, which implies that not only have they lost their homes, schools and communities, but their chance to build a future is also in danger.

The UN Refugee Agency (n.d) shows that 50% of the refugee children have the trend of not going to school, 76% of refugee adolescents do not attend secondary school, and only 3% enroll in college or university.

SER-KALLAI helps refugee children and youth to become self-sufficient.

This tremendous need for education while children and families face trauma from adverse childhood experiences, has empowered SER-KALLAI to provide social-emotional resources through social-emotional education and psychotherapy, with the purpose of serving families who have come as refugees from other countries, and giving them the possibility of a better future.

As a non-profit organization that provides social-emotional resources, SER-KALLAI helps refugee children and youth to become self-sufficient, improve cognitive and emotional skills, academic performance and engagement at school, and reduce aggressive behaviors, prejudice, bullying, and mental illness.

Advocating for their holistic well-being through social-emotional education and psychotherapy is the path to improve their lives and transform their future.

With their best interest in mind, SER-KALLAI counts on behavioral therapists, psychologists, life coaches, post-graduate professionals, teachers, social workers and volunteers, who have shaped SER-KALLAI into an integral and successful organization with SEL holistic programs, workshops and therapeutic services, which make a safe and sustainable platform for refugees to experience well-being while transitioning to a different culture, despite adverse childhood experiences.

We are all committed to be light in their lives and show principles of love, best interest, synergy, service leadership and excellence in everything we do. We believe that advocating for their holistic well-being through social-emotional education and psychotherapy is the path to improve their lives and transform their future.

SER-KALLAI IN ACTION

Since 2018, The Learning Well (TLW) Children's Club, has implemented our holistic programs to provide Social-Emotional Learning (“SEL”) to Syrian refugees in West Palm Beach, Florida, developing analytical and skills for children between 5 and 13 years old, with non-English speaking parents.

Our work has allowed refugee children who have faced adverse childhood experiences to develop prosocial behavior, emotion regulation, academic achievement, self-sufficiency and autonomous decision-making.

Support our Florida refugee community with the SEL programs, workshops and therapeutic services that they need.
